Personal touches — visit the home of Hanna Goldfisch

Step inside the creative world of Hanna Goldfisch and discover her unique perspective on crafting environments that resonate with beauty and functionality. Hanna is a Berlin based model and artist. Originally from a quaint village in Lower Franconia, she was inevitably drawn to the vibrant allure of the city. At the end of 2017, Hanna purchased an apartment in Berlin and undertook a renovation; she has been living there with her boyfriend Memo ever since.

When we see your home, we’re full of admiration for the serene color palette contrasted with bold shapes. Does this style reflect your personality?

There’s always a lot going on in my head. That’s why it was important for me to create a calm living environment where I can relax and have enough space to unleash my creativity. The organic shapes found in my objects are an expression of what is reflected in my mind because during the creative process I don’t really think about it, it just flows out of me.

You’ve become Instagram famous since your amazing DIY reels started going viral, one after another. The handmade homeware takes your home to a whole new level. Do you believe that such content can be an inspiration to get more crafty instead of cutting corners when it comes to furnishing?

As a self-employed person, I’m fortunate to have more flexibility with my time than those working traditional 9 to 5 jobs. I dedicate my free time to upcycling and handcrafting most of my furniture. This personal touch translates into a unique connection with each piece, which I love to share with my Instagram followers in a lighthearted way. I want to inspire them to slow down and make more mindful consumption choices.

Do you believe furniture can be a work of art? Do you think there’s a clear distinction between the functional and the artistic?

To me, anything that engages the senses and is used to express one’s style and personality is considered art. This includes furnishing and decorating your home, and it’s even more rewarding when it serves a functional purpose.

How do you strike a balance between showing off your vibrant personality and finding time to relax and unplug from social media?

Honestly, it’s quite challenging to find the right balance as the digital world continues to merge with reality. The only thing that helps me is having strict rules that I try to stick to. I leave my phone in the living room at night before I go to sleep, and I spend the first two hours after waking up without it. This prevents me from being digitally overloaded in the morning and enables me to calmly prepare for my day.

You seem to be coming up with new ideas all the time, and we love it. We can’t help but ask: where does your inspiration come from?

I draw inspiration from everything I come across in my daily life, and I am truly grateful for that. Having a creative circle of friends has been instrumental in my journey, as they constantly encourage me to explore new avenues and foster personal growth.
